How to take a snapshot of your Ex2 VPS

A snapshot is a point-in-time image of your entire VPS — the fastest way to roll back if an update or config change goes wrong.

  1. Log in to your Ex2 account, go to Services, select your VPS, and open the VPS management panel.
  2. Decide whether to stop the server. Snapshots of a running server work, but they are crash-consistent (like pulling the plug). For databases or busy sites, stop the VPS first for a clean snapshot.
  3. Open the Snapshots tab and click Create snapshot. Give it a clear name, e.g. pre-update-2026-10-07.
  4. Wait for the status to change to Completed. Verify it appears in the list with the correct timestamp and size before making your changes.

Keep in mind:

  • A snapshot is a rollback tool, not a backup — it lives on the same infrastructure as your VPS. Keep real backups elsewhere too.
  • Snapshots consume disk space. Keep only the last two or three and delete old ones.
  • Restoring a snapshot reverts everything to that moment — any data created after the snapshot is lost.
