What is the CloudLinux OS?

The CloudLinux management system

CloudLinux is a hosting-oriented Linux distribution based on CentOS. It uses LVE (light virtual environment) kernel technology that is similar to OpenVZ in some aspects or other OS-based virtualization technologies.

In shared hosting, the most common reason for unavailability is a single account capturing most of the shared resources due to heavy sites or non-optimized scripts. The CloudLinux operating system is specially designed for shared servers. It makes it impossible for one or more users to cause a severe load on the server.

CloudLinux improves server stability by encapsulating each client in its own secure and isolated environment. This means that each user on the server is limited in the amount of resources they can use. Each is placed in a separate container environment.

In addition, CloudLinux includes CageFS, a virtualized file system. This contains a set of tools to contain each user in their own cage. Each client has its own fully functional CageFS with all system files, tools, etc.

The benefits of CageFS:

The user will not see any other users. It will have no way to detect the presence of other users or see their usernames on the server
User will not be able to see server configuration files (such as Apache configuration files)
The user will have limited access to the/proc file system. Under no circumstances will the user be able to see the processes of other users.
Only safe binaries are made available to the user

CageFS also blocks script execution. In case an executable malware affects a cPanel account, it will not reach the others in any way.

The benefits of CloudLinux:

Isolates users from each other to avoid negative effects from their neighbours
Prevents users from seeing configuration files or other private information
Provides the CageFS file system that encapsulates each server client separately
Compatible with all major control panels
Monitors and exploits the use of MySQL
Allows end users to select PHP versions 5.2-5.6; 7.0-7.4; 8.0-8.1.
Monitors and controls resource limits (such as CPU, RAM and disk space usage)
Prevents symbolic link attacks
