What is a Bounce Rate?

The bounce rate of a site

The bounce rate is a unit of measure of website user interactions. It indicates the percentage of users who, after accessing one of the site’s pages, choose to leave before interacting.

It is common for users to visit a website, but to leave before interacting or even before the content finishes loading. Analytics software like Google Analytics counts these visits to measure a site’s rebound rate.

Websites with high bounce rates are perceived by search engines as offering a bad user experience. They are therefore discriminated against in the search results.

A high bounce rate can be due to several factors. One can think of a too high loading time, a complex and unclear layout, or other elements of the site design that push users to leave it.

Studies on the subject show that a normal bounce rate for most websites should be between 26% and 55%. So "rebounds" are fairly common phenomena that we should not worry about. However, if you notice that your website’s bounce rate is starting to increase, you may want to focus on the reason for this change.
