The EPP Transfer Authorization Code

An IPS code is also known as an authorization code. This is a unique set of characters assigned by the domain registrar.

This code is a protection. In combination with other security measures such as domain locking, it ensures that only the legitimate owner can transfer a domain.

If a bad EPP code is provided when setting up a domain transfer, the transfer will be blocked.

The EPP key is required when transferring most domain name extensions, such as . com, . net, . org, . info, etc.

There are some exceptions, such as .co.uk or . eu domains, that use a different code. It should be noted that some registrars do not make the IPS code available in the user interface and require it to be requested.
