# What is a Brute Force Attack?

## Brute force attacks

A brute force attack is, of course, a type of cyberattack. In this model, the attacker uses the trial and error method to open an online account at the target site. This process is usually performed by malicious robots (AI) who try to guess login credentials, passwords, or digital keys.

A brute force attack is also sometimes referred to as a key _exhaustive search. The term brute_ force attack encompasses different types of attacks. This includes simple brute force attacks, hybrid attacks, dictionary attacks, and reverse brute force attacks. 

Hackers who use these strategies simply analyze all possible combinations for the connections they are trying to crack. Experienced hackers can even penetrate encrypted systems. 

Data obtained from brute force attacks are often used for illegal or reprehensible acts. Examples include fraud, identity theft and credential recycling. Fortunately, users can protect sensitive data by limiting connection attempts or using CAPTCHA to keep robots away.
