# How to take a snapshot of your Ex2 VPS

A snapshot is a point-in-time image of your entire VPS — the fastest way to roll back if an update or config change goes wrong.

1. Log in to your Ex2 account, go to **Services**, select your VPS, and open the **VPS management panel**.
2. **Decide whether to stop the server.** Snapshots of a running server work, but they are crash-consistent (like pulling the plug). For databases or busy sites, stop the VPS first for a clean snapshot.
3. Open the **Snapshots** tab and click **Create snapshot**. Give it a clear name, e.g. `pre-update-2026-10-07`.
4. Wait for the status to change to **Completed**. Verify it appears in the list with the correct timestamp and size before making your changes.

**Keep in mind:**
* A snapshot is a rollback tool, not a backup — it lives on the same infrastructure as your VPS. Keep real backups elsewhere too.
* Snapshots consume disk space. Keep only the last two or three and delete old ones.
* Restoring a snapshot reverts **everything** to that moment — any data created after the snapshot is lost.
