# How to set access rights for files and folders via cPanel?

## Here are the steps to set access rights for files and folders via cPanel

1. [Log in to your cPanel account](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/how-to-log-in-to-my-cpanel-account-xyoqm0/?bust=1682091900253) (via your customer account or https://www.bmoname.com:2083).

2. In the **Files** section of the [cPanel control panel](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/what-is-cpanel-vq3toz/?bust=1784206091492), click the **File Manager**.

3. Navigate to the folder or file in question.

4. Right-click on the item whose access rights you want to change. Select **Change Permissions** from the drop-down menu that appears.

5. Set your new access rights settings for different users. Then click the **Change Permissions** button.

The changes will then apply automatically. There is no need to confirm.
