# How to run flushdns on a Windows PC?

### Running flushdns on a PC using the Windows OS

There is no dictan rule when to clear your [DNS](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/what-is-the-domain-name-system-or-dns-oen40o/?bust=1784819338957) cache. Well, that’s unless there’s an urgent problem that can only be solved by emptying the cache. Clearing the DNS cache is a quick and easy process. If you are using Windows as your operating system, do the following:

###### Step 1: Access the Windows command line

Use the [Windows] + [R] key combination to access the **Run** window. Then enter the command “cmd” to launch the command prompt.

Step 2: Clear the DNS cache with “ipconfig/flushdns”

To now perform flushdns via CMD, use the ipconfig command. To do this, type the following command and confirm with the Enter key:

"ipconfig/flushdns"

After successful execution, you receive a message that the DNS resolution cache has been cleared.

Note that after resetting the cache, your very first connection should take a little longer than usual.
