# How to configure the spam filter in Apache SpamAssassin via cPanel?

It is possible to customize the configuration of an Apache SpamAssassin spam filter. Of course, you must first [activate the SpamAssassin filter](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/how-do-i-activate-apache-spamassassin-in-cpanel-pkzoxe/?bust=1678725591465)) on your web hosting.  

## Steps to set up the Apache SpamAssassin spam filter in cPanel

1. [Log in to your cPanel](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/how-to-log-in-to-my-cpanel-account-xyoqm0/?bust=1676305236426).

2. In the Email section, click the Spam Filters icon.

3. You can then configure the sensitivity of the filter, the spam destination directory and the automatic removal feature.

### Steps to add an email address to your spam filter whitelist

2. In the Email section, click the Spam Filters icon.

3. Next, scroll down to “Additional Configurations (For Advanced Users)” and click “Show Additional Configurations”.

4. Then scroll down to “Whitelist (Emails Always Allowed)” and click on “Edit Spam Whitelist Settings”.

5. Click on “Add a New ‘whitelist_from’ Item”.

6. Enter the email address you want to add to the whitelist.

7. Finally, click on “Update Whitelist (whitelist_from)”.

8. A confirmation message should announce the modification of Apache SpamAssassin parameters.

3. Next, scroll down to “Additional Configurations (For Advanced Users)” and click “Show Additional Configurations”.

4. Then scroll down to “Blacklist (Emails Never Allowed)” and click on “Edit Spam Blacklist Settings”

5. Click on “Add a New ‘blacklist_from’ Item”.
