# How do I renew my free SSL certificate?

## Steps to renew a free SSL certificate

1. [Log in to your cPanel account](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/comment-me-connecter-a-mon-compte-cpanel-pqz10p/?bust=1676032517306).
  
2. In the Security section, click the **SSL/TLS Status** tool.

3. Make sure that auto-renewal is enabled next to the domain name for which you want to renew the SSL certificate.

4. Click the **Autorun SSL** button to send a request to Let’s Encrypt for a new certificate. 

Free certificates are valid for 3 months. They are however renewed automatically, as long as the location of your domain and your site do not change.

Installation of the new [SSL](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/how-does-a-ssl-security-protocol-work-100n92b/?bust=1784568389404) certificate may take up to one hour, depending on the number of requests at that time at Let’s Encrypt.
