# How do I connect my domain to Shopify ?

### Connecting your third-party domain to Shopify points your domain name at your Shopify store.  

If you don’t see instructions for your provider, then you can follow this generic setup guide to connect your existing domain to Shopify.

### Add an existing domain to your Shopify store:

First, you need to **add** your **custom** **domain** to your **Shopify** **store**. This step identifies you to Shopify as the owner of your custom domain.

###### You can **use** the **following** **steps** to add an existing domain to your Shopify store:

*   From your **Shopify** **admin**, go to **Online Store** > **Domains**
*   Click **Connect** **existing** domain.
*   Enter the **domain** that you want to **connect**.
*   Click **Next**.

Now you need to set up your existing domain to point to Shopify.  

###### Please **use** the **following** steps to **point** a **domain** to **Shopify**:

*   **Log** **in** to the **account** you have with your **domain** **provider**.
*   Find your [DNS](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/what-is-the-domain-name-system-or-dns-oen40o/?bust=1784819338957) **settings**. Look for your **domain management** **area**, **DNS** configuration etc.
*   **Edit** your [A Record](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/what-is-an-a-record-eaqi9i/?bust=1784819874397) to **point** to **Shopify's** **IP** address
*   **Save** the A **Record**
*   **Find** the [CNAME](https://help.ex2.com/en/article/what-is-a-cname-record-10tdlub/?bust=1784819874395) record in your **DNS** **settings**.
*   **Change** your www **CNAME** record **to** **point** to **“shops.myshopify.com”**
*   **Save** the CNAME **Record**

The next step is to **verify** your **connection** in **Shopify**.

**Click** Verify connection in your **Shopify** **admin** to **confirm** that your **custom** **domain** has been **connected** to **your store**.
